The short version. This summary is here to help. The full terms below are what count.
- You must be 16 or over, and you take part in sport at your own risk.
- Games, leagues and squads are run by the people who organise them, not by us.
- Zero tolerance for abuse. Anything can be reported, and anyone can be blocked.
- When you pay in the app, you see the full price, including our service fee, before you pay.
- You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Settings → Delete account.
1. Who we are
These terms are an agreement between you and Ringers Sport Limited, a company registered in Ireland ("Ringers", "we", "us"). They cover your use of the Ringers mobile app and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Ringers.
Payments for games in Australia are collected by our Australian subsidiary, RINGERS SPORT (AUS) PTY. LTD. Section 9 explains how this works. In these terms, "Ringers" includes that company when it collects or refunds a payment.
Ringers Sport Limited · Company number 825105 · Venture Hub, 136 Capel Street, Dublin, D01 T2C9, Ireland
RINGERS SPORT (AUS) PTY. LTD. · ACN 702 542 498 · ABN 29 702 542 498 · New South Wales, Australia
2. What Ringers is
Ringers helps people find, host and join local sport and social activities ("games"). These include one-off pick-up games, runs, walks, rides, classes and book clubs. It also offers:
- Squads. A space for an existing team or group to manage its games, chat and costs together.
- Leagues. A competition run by a league organiser, which squads enter for a season. A league has its own fixtures, results, table and stats.
Ringers is a platform that connects people. We don't organise, supervise, referee, coach or insure any game, league or squad. We are not a party to the arrangement between a host, organiser or captain and the people taking part, except where we collect a payment as set out in Section 9.
3. Who can use Ringers
- You must be at least 16 years old. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up, and nobody under 16 can finish signing up.
- If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian is happy for you to use Ringers.
- We don't check your date of birth against ID. If we find that an account belongs to someone under 16, we will close it.
4. Your account
- Give accurate information and keep it up to date. Keep your login details safe. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- You can sign up with an email address, or with Google or Apple. If you use Google or Apple, that provider's own terms and privacy policy apply to the sign-in.
- One account per person. Don't share, sell or transfer your account, and don't pretend to be someone else.
5. Community rules: zero tolerance for abuse
Ringers is built on trust between players. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour, in the app or at a game. You must not post, send or do anything that is:
- harassing, threatening, hateful or discriminatory;
- sexually explicit or violent;
- illegal, misleading or spam;
- an infringement of someone else's rights, such as a photo you don't have permission to share.
You must not misuse reviews or reliability ratings. That means no fake reviews, and no reviews written to retaliate or harass.
Every profile, post, comment, message, game, squad and league can be reported, and you can block anyone. We review reports, normally within 24 hours. We may remove content, and we may suspend or permanently ban an account that breaks these rules.
6. Your content
You own what you post: photos, posts, messages, reviews, match reports and so on. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store and show that content in the Service, so the app can work. This licence is only for running the Service. Don't post anything you don't have the right to share.
Reviews must be honest and based on your own experience of the game. We may remove a review that breaks these terms.
7. Games, hosts and safety
- Sport carries risk. That includes physical exertion, contact with other players, equipment and venues we don't run, and travel to and from a game. You take part voluntarily and at your own risk. You are responsible for judging your own fitness and ability.
- Meeting people. Ringers connects you with people you may not have met before. We don't run background checks. Use your judgement: meet in public places, and use profiles, reliability ratings and reviews to help you decide.
- Hosts, organisers and captains are responsible for how they run their game, league or squad, and for the accuracy of what they publish (venue, time, cost, level). If a venue needs a booking, permit or insurance, arranging it is their responsibility.
- Only Ringers users can join a game. Don't bring along people who aren't registered.
8. Reliability ratings
Profiles show a reliability rating. It is based on whether people turned up to games they joined, and how hosts ran their games. Hosts and players record this after a game. It helps everyone decide who to play with.
If you think a review of your reliability is wrong, you can dispute it from Profile → Reliability. It stops counting while we look at it.
If someone repeatedly fails to turn up, or cancels late, we may restrict their account, for example from joining paid games for a time. A person on our team always reviews this first. You can ask us to reconsider by emailing support@ringerssport.com.
9. Payments
Some games, league seasons and squad costs are paid for in the app. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details. Stripe's own terms and privacy policy also apply to every payment.
There are three kinds of payment. Each works a little differently, because the money goes to a different place.
9.1 Service fees
Before you pay, the app always shows the total you'll be charged, including our service fee.
| Payment | The person paying | The person receiving |
|---|---|---|
| A paid game | Pays the game cost, plus a service fee of 2% plus 30c | The host receives the game cost, minus 3% |
| A league entry fee | Pays the entry fee, plus 2% plus 30c | The organiser receives the entry fee, minus 3% |
| A squad fee | Pays their share, plus 2% plus 30c | The captain receives the full share |
We may change these fees. We will give at least 14 days' notice in the app or by email before a change applies to you. A change never affects a payment already made.
9.2 Paid games
- Who collects the money. Our Australian company collects your payment on the host's behalf. It holds the payment until after the game, then pays the host. This is what lets us refund you under the rules below without depending on the host.
- When you are charged. If a game doesn't need the host's approval, you are charged when you join. If it does, your card is only held when you ask to join, and you are charged when the host approves you. If the host turns you down, you withdraw your request, or the host doesn't answer before the hold expires, nothing is charged.
- When the host is paid. The host is paid shortly after the game ends.
Cancellations and refunds for paid games
| What happens | What you get back |
|---|---|
| You leave 24 hours or more before the start | The game cost. The service fee isn't refunded. |
| You leave less than 24 hours before the start | Nothing, because the host has lost the place. |
| You left late, the game was full when you left, and your place is later taken by someone else | The game cost, when your place is filled. The service fee isn't refunded. |
| The host cancels the game | Everything, including the service fee, if your payment is still held. If you left early and were refunded the game cost, you keep that and get nothing more. |
| The host removes you before the game starts | Everything, including the service fee. |
| Your request was still waiting for the host's approval | Nothing was charged, so there is nothing to refund. The hold on your card is released. |
If something goes wrong. After a paid game ends, you can report a problem from the game in the app. If the game didn't go ahead, or was very different from its description, every payment for it is held back while we look. If we agree, everyone whose payment is still held gets everything back, including the service fee. Someone who left early keeps the game cost they were refunded, and nothing more. For any other problem, if we agree while your payment is still held, we refund it in full. Once the host has been paid, the app can't refund you. We can only try to help informally.
9.3 League entry fees
- Who pays. The squad admin who registers the squad for a season.
- Who receives the money. The league organiser, who is the seller for this payment. The money goes to the organiser's account as soon as it is charged. Ringers does not hold it. Your card statement will show the organiser's name.
- When you are charged. You are charged when you join, or when the organiser accepts you if the league needs their approval.
- Refunds. You get everything back, including the service fee, if the organiser cancels the season or removes your squad before the season starts. The organiser can also choose to refund you at any time. A squad that leaves a season isn't refunded, before or after it starts. Nor is a squad removed once the season has started.
- Paying the organiser directly. Some leagues let you pay the organiser outside the app. That payment is between you and the organiser. Ringers doesn't take or refund it.
9.4 Squad fees
- A squad captain can collect shared costs (a pitch booking, kit, a league fee) from the squad in the app.
- Your share goes straight to the captain collecting it, who is the seller for this payment. Ringers does not hold it.
- Only the captain can give a refund. When they do, the service fee is refunded in the same proportion. Any arrangement about the cost itself is between the squad's members and its captain.
9.5 Hosts, organisers and captains who receive money
To receive payments, you set up a payout account with Stripe, on Stripe's own pages. Stripe asks for your identity and bank details. We don't see or store them.
For now, payout accounts are available in Australia only. Stripe requires you to be 18 or over to set one up.
Payment processing services for hosts, organisers and captains on Ringers are provided by Stripe and are subject to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement, which includes the Stripe Services Agreement (together, the "Stripe Services Agreement"). By agreeing to these terms or continuing to receive payments through Ringers, you agree to be bound by the Stripe Services Agreement, as Stripe may modify it from time to time. As a condition of Ringers enabling payment processing services through Stripe, you agree to provide Ringers accurate and complete information about you and your business, and you authorise Ringers to share it, and transaction information related to your use of the payment processing services provided by Stripe.
If you charge for something, you are responsible for any tax that applies to what you receive.
9.6 Chargebacks
If something is wrong with a payment, please raise it with us in the app first. We can usually sort it out faster than your bank. If you ask your bank to reverse a payment (a "chargeback"), the payment may be held, or taken back from the person who received it, while Stripe and your bank decide. This doesn't affect any right you have under consumer law.
10. Photos and video for our marketing
Sometimes we, or people working for us, may come to a game to take photos or video for our own marketing. If we do, we'll tell you beforehand. We'll ask your permission before we use any image in which you can be identified. You can say no, and saying no doesn't affect your use of Ringers in any way. If you give permission and later change your mind, email us. We'll stop using the image, and remove it where we reasonably can.
This section is only about our own marketing. Photos that other users post are covered by Section 6.
11. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Settings → Delete account. The app tells you the main things that happen before you confirm. If you can't get into the app, email support@ringerssport.com from the address on your account.
A few things must be settled first. You can't delete your account while:
- you have a payment on a game that hasn't started yet;
- you have an open report that a game didn't happen;
- you are hosting a game with payments still to be paid out;
- you organise a league. Hand it on or close it first.
Deleting your account withdraws a squad you alone belong to from any league season it has paid for, and refunds that fee.
Some shared records stay after deletion, because they belong to other people too. Our Privacy Policy lists them.
We may also suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other people at risk, or misuses the Service. Where it is safe to, we'll tell you why. If we suspend your account, any payment you have on a game follows the normal refund rules in Section 9.
12. Messages from us
We send messages the Service needs in order to work, such as sign-up and password codes, game updates and safety notices. Push notifications can be turned off in the app or on your phone. We don't send marketing emails from the app.
13. Things we aren't responsible for
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promise that it will always be available or free of errors.
To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for:
- what other users do, in the app or at a game;
- what happens at a game, league or squad run by users;
- indirect or consequential loss.
If we are responsible for a loss, our total liability to you is limited to whichever is greater: A$100, or the total you paid through Ringers in the 12 months before the thing that caused the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes:
- our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud;
- any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law;
- any consumer protection law of the country you live in that can't be excluded.
Where the Australian Consumer Law lets us limit our liability for failing a consumer guarantee, our liability is limited to supplying the service again, or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
14. If you cause a loss
If we face a claim or loss because you broke these terms or the law, or because of how you behaved at a game, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it. This applies to the extent the law allows.
15. Other services we use
The other companies Ringers relies on are listed in our Privacy Policy.
16. Our name and app
The Ringers name, logo, design and software belong to us, or to the people who license them to us. Please don't use them without our written permission.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Ringers changes. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Ringers after that, the new terms apply.
18. Disputes and governing law
If you have a problem with us, please email support@ringerssport.com first. We'll try to sort it out, and aim to reply within 14 days. Either of us may go to court at any time if something is urgent.
These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia. The courts of New South Wales can hear disputes about them.
If you are a consumer, this choice of law doesn't take away the protection of mandatory laws in the country where you live. You can still bring a claim in your own country's courts, or use a dispute scheme available to you there, where that law allows. Nothing in this section limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
19. General
- These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
- If a court finds part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce part of these terms straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- You can't transfer your rights under these terms without our consent. We may transfer ours to a company that takes over Ringers, as long as it agrees to these terms.
- We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control.
